ZETA PHI BETA SORORITY, INC

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated was founded on January 16, 1920 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. by five phenomenal women.  The Founders of the sorority choose not to embrace the tenets of the existing sororities and opted to form a new organization that encouraged the highest standards of Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood, and that exemplified the ideal of Finer Womanhood.

With the encouragement of Charles Taylor and Langston Taylor, members of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated, our beloved Founders organized this supreme sorority.  The Sigma brothers felt that the campus would benefit by the development of such an organization as a sister to the fraternity.  Thus, Zetas and Sigmas became the first official Greek-letter constitutionally bound fraternity and sorority.

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. is a community conscious, action oriented organization that provides programs to meet the day-to-day needs of our communities.

For eighty-two years, the path taken by our founders has been traveled by thousands of women who are dedicated to the fulfillment of the objectives and ideas of the sorority.  Since its inception, the sorority has grown to more than 100,000 college-educated, professional women worldwide.  There are more than 700 collegiate and graduate chapters, divided into nine regions in the United States and Africa.  The sorority also has chapters in the
Bahama Islands; Germany; Virgin Islands, South Korea and Italy.

UPSILON XI (UNC-CHARLOTTE CHAPTER)

It all began with one...one desire so overwhelming, one vision so clearly constructed, one individual of strength and adamant determination.  Soror Theodora Holmes was that outstanding individual.  As a student at UNC-Charlotte in the late 1980's she felt that there was something truly missing from her campus--a sorority that exemplified true Service, Scholarship, and Sisterly love.  Soror Holmes made it possible for there to be a chapter at UNC-Charlotte by being initiated into the Sigma Chapter of Livingstone College in the fall of 1989.  Once she became a member of this illustrious sorority, she worked diligently to ensure that there would be a chapter at UNC-Charlotte by making sure young women were educated on the sorority's beliefs.  Upon her graduation her vision became a reality and the Exquizzzite Upsilon Xi Chapter was founded on September 20, 1991 by five women that shared her same passion:

           Soror Crystal Sterling
                                Soror Daphne Satterwhite
                                Soror Ktura Rendelman
                                Soror Donyale Henderson
                                Soror Chanda Wright

It is because of these young women and the lovely ladies that followed them that the Upsilon Xi Chapter remains as strong as it is today.  We carry on our legacy with pride!

SIGMA BETA CLUB

In 1950 Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity became the first Greek organization to develop a youth auxiliary group. Under the direction of Dr. Parlette L. Moore the Sigma Beta Club was founded. Brother Moore was concerned about our changing needs in our communities and recognized the important role that Sigma men could play in the lives of our youth.

The Sigma Beta Clubs’ four major principles of focus are on Culture, Athletics, Social and Educational needs. The Sigma Beta Club offers a unique opportunity to develop values, leadership skills and social/cultural awareness in our youth during their developmental years. Sigma Beta Club programs are geared to meet the needs of its members, but at the same time provide them with a well-rounded outlook that is needed to cope with today's society. Phi Beta Sigma is confident that investing in our youth today will produce the effective leaders of tomorrow.

The purpose for an organization such as the Sigma Beta Club is many. The Club, being an organization for young male students, gives them an opportunity to meet with each other on a regular basis outside the school atmosphere to discuss their interest and problems. The Club also gives its members a chance to meet with college and professional men on a regular basis; therefore, exposing the membership to various viewpoints of educational advancements. The club introduces its members to the national programs of the fraternity through the unified national program focus involving the Job Mentoring Program in Bigger & Better Business, Sigma Education Time Tutorial Program in Education, and SATAP Plus Program in Social Action. The club will also participate in the other programs of the fraternity National Programs under Education, Bigger and Better Business, and Social Action. Sigma Beta Club programs are geared to meet the needs of its members, while at the same time provide them with a well rounded outlook that is needed to cope with today's society. The enrichment programs are cultural, social, and athletic. They are designed to give members a chance to be innovative, thereby instilling self confidence and a feeling of accomplishment. Service projects such as community clean-up, assistance to the elderly, March of Dimes, etc, will thrust Club members into community involvement. This involvement will give Club members a feeling of being part of community development.

The club motto is:
Next Generation of Leaders,
Accepting the Responsibility,
Loving the Challenge
